Creative QR Codes

Since these new QR codes have come out I have been struggling with just how to make them work in my designs. They are so ugly and have to be so big that it is a real challenge incorporating them into my work.

Here are some great ideas on how to make the QR code sexy.

Useful and to the point.

A great idea, and clean cover design.

SET creative agency in Japan created this QR code logo for the Japanese Red Cross.
The code reveals information on how to donate to the earthquake/tsunami relief effort in northern Japan.

Bud Light & Sunny Weather

I really like these banner ads on the weather network for Bud Light. Really made me want to crack one open and I don't even like beer...Good work.

I love the way they have thought outside the box here. The colours are such great compliments to each other and really "pop" and wow, no red anywhere...interesting.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

The best ad is an ad that gets noticed. Filling every inch of the ad with copy
about all the great things that you have to offer is not necessarily going to get you noticed.
Get their attention first and wow them with your product once they are in.
Word of mouth will do the rest.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I love these ads,
the logo is not enormous, there are not gigantic headlines
and lists of benefits and features, just plain, simple, to the point and memorable.

Have a break. Have a Kit Kat.

The Creative Type

I just LOVE this creative look at type.

For me, fonts are such an important part of the process. If they are right, they can be the star of the show, creating a feeling and a base for your design.
If they are wrong, they stand out like an exposed vertebrae. Read a bit about the design process of this image HERE.

"Grafik Tasarim is the leading graphic design magazine in Turkey providing design news, research and educational articles. Turkish art director Barış Sarhan collaborated with artist Ahmet Eken to produce a lowercase “a” with human-like muscles and vertebrae exposed. The image is a composite of items built by hand and 3D computer generated images."

Another inspiring look at type with the alphabet
created using only a chair by Amandine Alessandra.

The sartorialist

I just LOVE this site, The Satorialist.

I often see people in the street
that have such an amazing sense of style
or have paired something together that is
so strange but so great at the same time.

You just want to stare at them
and take it in but it just feels so odd
to just gawk at them.

This site posts images of these such people
on the street for us all to look at
as long as we want...
